Getting Your Garage Ready for Moving

Packing your stuff in the garage is no easy feat. This is where you can find old goods, tools, accessories - you name it. Most professional movers will agree that it is actually one of the difficult tasks to tackle when packing. But if you sorted it out, you can find a few gems. You can sell second hand items or auction it on eBay.

For things that you can still use, here are a few tips to pack them easily:
  • Professional movers recommend selecting the right type and size of box for the items you need to pack.
  • For DIY tools that you have kept in drawers, you can invest in sturdy plastic tool boxes. You can then keep storing them in these boxes when you get into your new home.
  • If you have tubs of half-used paint, it is better not to take it to your new home. Instead, dispose it properly or donate it to a local charity to help with community projects.
  • Ladders, shelves, poles, and other fixtures should be removed and transported accordingly.
  • For lawn mowers, grills, and other gas-operated machinery, drain them of all harmful liquids. Purchase protective covers for lawn mower blades, chain saws, and grills. Make sure remove all attachments carefully and pack them securely in boxes. Label them properly.
  • Professional movers remind homeowners to discard items they no longer need in an eco-friendly way. In particular, be careful when disposing hazardous materials in your garage. Get help with your local authority to find out how you can dispose these chemicals in compliance with your state's environmental guidelines.
  • If you have worn-out car batteries, consider them as hazardous waste and again, dispose them properly. Avoid throwing them together with your household garbage. They can be recycled at metal recycling and local waste facilities.
  • To pack bicycles, get shipment boxes from a bike retailer near you.
  • Bread clips and twist ties can be used to keep wires from power tools wrapped tightly into place
