How to Get a Better Moving Experience

Packing and moving your belongings can be stressful to some. As a result, most people entrust their valuables to moving companies. Unfortunately, some of you may have heard of horror stories from friends and family members who had a bad moving experience. If you're one of those people who made a wrong decision of hiring unreliable movers, you may lose your time and money.

The good news is that there are people who had a good experience, and these are the ones you should get assistance from. You can ask them about the moving company they prefer then do your own research. Find out if the moving company fits your needs. The most important thing is to plan ahead and learn everything yo need to know about the movers of your choice.

So how do you get a better service from your preferred moving company?
  • The easiest way to find trustworthy movers is to get referrals from real estate agents, family, and friends. Find professional movers who have the credibility and have been in business for a few years.
  • Aside from over-the phone estimates given by the moving company, it is recommended to set appointments and on-site estimate for accuracy.
  • Professional movers suggest making a checklist of services that you need. There are a wide range of services offered by companies, including packing and storage. Other moving companies provide additional services, like cleaning your new house, unpacking, and assembling your furniture, and arranging household items.
  • After discussing the services you require, get a firm quote and put it into writing. If you have any last-minute changes or need additional services, inform the moving company in advance.
  • Most often, professional movers are booked in advance. For them to be able to accommodate you on your preferred moving date, schedule at least 3-4 weeks ahead. Fortunately,  there are companies that understand unexpected events and offer last-minute moving, so be sure to do more research or ask the moving company.
  • Moving companies are usually fully booked on weekends and at the end of the month. They will charge regular rates when you hire them during this period. But during off-peak days, you may get a discount.
  • Find out if the moving company you are about to hire will do the work on their own or will sub-contract the work. Ask them if they have their own storage facility and equipment.
You can experience a better moving service if you plan ahead, organize your move, and land on a reliable team of movers. Before you make the final decision, compare the different offers from companies and ask questions. It's always better to be safe than make a decision you will regret later on.
